Project 1: Jime Dine Tools, working with contour line, value and observational drawing: 8/29/2011
Homework: What is the difference between a blind contour drawing and a contour drawing? Turn in two sketches of the same object (one blind contour and one contour) for 10pts.
Create on last final sketch with pencil, only use VALUE to add lights and darks. Refer to the value scales made in class.

Project 2: Mandala Design: 8/29/2011
This is aimed to challenge your ability to follow directions and to be creative at the same time. Your mandala may have a big idea, a yantra design, or a kalidescope feel. As your are brainstorming ideas, watch these videos

One Point Perspective Space Stations
Students will explore the use of one point perspective and create a space station using the theory of one point perspective. To finish off the drawings, students will shade them with colored pencil value and marker.
Aboriginal Artworks
Students will talke a mini adventure to Aulstralia to explore the designs from the Aboriginal peoples of the outback. Students will create a contour line drawing of an animal native to Australia and use a printmaking method on foam using embossing tools to create a print.
Weaving Design
Students will create a weaving design using WARP and WEFT on a cardboard loom. Students will practice tapestry technique.
Illuminated Letter
Students will learn about the skill of typography and create an illuminated letter for thier next art assignemnt. The work ILLUMINATE means to light up, bright, or fancy. Students will research illuminated letters by looking for them in literature books in the library. Using this imagery, they will then create thier own Illuminated letter design.

Magazine Bowls
Students will go green by using recycled magazines to create a functional piece of dinnerware.
Animal Grid Drawing
Students will utilized the math coordinate system to create a grid drawing of an animal of their choosing. Students will grid a photo 1 1/2 inches by 1 1/2 inches to an enlarged paper.
Ceramic Clay Monsters
Students used their imagination to create sketches of a monster to create out of clay. Each student then wrote a narrative about their monsters origins or an adventure they took.
Tessellation Tiles
Students studied the math concept of a tessellation as well as the use of tiles in Islamic Culture and Arts. Students then created their own tessellation tile and designed it with motifs commonly found in Islamic Art.
Gustav Klimt and Art Nouveau
Students studied artist Gustav Klimt and the history of WWII in America and Europe. They then created their own art nouveau piece inspired by Klimts work in Europe post WWII.
